For too long, women over 50 have been quietly making a difference – in boardrooms, communities, businesses, and beyond – without the recognition they deserve.
At a time when the world feels heavy with uncertainty, it’s exactly this generation of women we need in the spotlight. They bring a powerful mix of lived experience, leadership, and impact that’s often underestimated – or worse, overlooked.
That’s why I’m backing the inaugural ‘50 Over 50’ list, launched by Lot Hawkins and the team at The Stella Collective. It’s a platform to honour wāhine 50+ who are creating meaningful change – particularly for other women in this life stage. Whether it’s through mentoring, advocacy, business leadership, or quiet, sustained community impact, these women are showing that life after 50 isn’t about winding down. It’s a powerful next act.
And the data backs it up:
- Women over 50 are the fastest-growing segment of entrepreneurs in many countries, including the US, UK, and Australia. Research by the Kauffman Foundation found that the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity belongs to people aged 55–64.
- In leadership, global studies show women in their 50s score highest on key leadership traits like resilience, problem-solving, and strategic thinking (Harvard Business Review, 2020).
- And for organisations? Gender and age-diverse leadership teams consistently outperform their peers in innovation, profitability, and culture.
We need more visibility for these leaders, not less.
So, if you know a rockstar woman over 50, now’s the time.
Nominate her for the 50 Over 50 list.
It takes just ten minutes. And it matters.
Applications are open until the end of Sunday 27 July.
Let’s make sure no incredible woman over 50 goes unnoticed.
